Fr. Aaron Writes : 4th October 2021
Dear Friends!
It is also very good to see more and more of you at Mass with numbers holding up well, and with lots of new parishioners, there is palpable feeling of a fresh start in the parish. After Mass, do exit via main doors, unless you use the contactless machine at the side exit, so I can say hello!
Holy Communion – when you approach for Holy Communion, if you are a couple or family, please come forward together to receive the Lord. This will expedite the time for Holy Communion. The gaps between the Sunday Masses are short, and so this will help increase the time between liturgies. Many thanks.
Adoration and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament –this weekend we recommenced adoration after Mass and Benediction after Confessions. Please note on Saturdays, I will be in the confessional from now on. On Fridays, I will be in the sanctuary.
Pastoral Letter – we have another pastoral letter this weekend on Pope Francis’ invitation to forge a synod path. Copies are available to take home.
House Blessings – Thank you to those who have contacted me, I would continue to say if you are new to the parish and would like to have your house blessed or if you are a long-standing member of our community and have never done so, do get in contact via email and I would be delighted to come to your homes and even share in a meal or light refreshment!
A Walk in Honour of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary - will take place on Saturday October 9th, starting at St John’s Church at 9am and will continue to Our Lady of Consolation, West Grinstead. The walk should be 2 1/2 hours and will end with Holy Mass at the Shrine at 11:30am. Please bring a rosary to pray along the way.
Bishop Richard - We will welcome our bishop next Sunday when he celebrates the 10am Mass at which we will celebrate Bernard’s Smith contribution to catholic education.
Induction of New Headteacher at St John’s –Mrs Finula Farr’s Induction Mass will take place at St John’s Church on Wednesday 13th October at 4:30pm. Bishop Richard will celebrate the Mass. Do please keep Finula in your prayers.
First Holy Communions – A compulsory session for parents takes place on Monday 4th October at 7pm in the Church.
Altar Servers – We now have number of new cassocks and cottas, although we are still awaiting some sizes, these can be collected from the Presbytery from this weekend. If, you could arrive in good time (20 mins before Mass) and pick yours up. Please look after the cassocks and cottas, washing them and ironing them when necessary so as to look crisp and pristine for service at the Altar of God.
Restart – Again I make an appeal for those who would like to help with certain parish activities and ministries. Perhaps, you might consider using your time, talent or treasure to assist in one of the following areas of parish life:
• Evangelisation/ Catholic Teaching Programmes
• Children’s Liturgy
• Parish Socials
• Refreshments after Mass
• Coffee and Chat Mornings during the week
• Visiting the Sick or assisting them.
• Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.
• Prayer Groups
• Reading at Mass
• Singing at Mass
• Altar Serving
• Welcoming
• Pro-Life Group
• Justice and Peace Group
• St Vincent de Paul
In the coming weeks, I would also like to establish some form of Pastoral Council in which I can get together a small number of parishioners to assist me in the growth and sustainment of the parish’s activities, to help my hear and understand the desire and needs of parish families and individuals; and also to help me facilitate new projects that will help us grow in our Catholic Faith and be the beacon of hope to those in our town.
Appointment of an additional Parish Health and Safety Representative
I wish to appoint an additional Parish Safety Representative to eventually to take over the role from the current parish volunteer. The role is to assist me in the discharge of my health and safety responsibilities. Please contact me if you wish to consider this role.
People who typically fulfil this role are often able to bring professional qualifications, knowledge, skills and experience which supports them in this role. Useful skills and attributes for such a role include:
o A commitment to safety, health and welfare.
o A good working knowledge of the parish, what goes on and how activities are run.
o Good communication and organisation skills.
o Basic IT skills and access to a computer or tablet.
In Memoriam – Please keep Tony Leaver RIP in your prayers, also hold in your prayers his family who mourn. Tony’s Requiem Mass will be on Wednesday October 13th at 12 Noon, here at St John’s.
With my very best wishes and prayers for the week ahead.
