Fr. Aaron Writes :20th March 2022
Dear Friends,
We can continue to support our brothers and sisters by donating to CAFOD which will help the sister charity CARITAS UKRAINE and the UK Disasters Emergency Committee to help hundreds of thousands of people fleeing conflict in the country. To find out more, please visit www.cafod.org.uk.
You can also help via Aid to the Church in Need: www.acnuk.org and give to the Ukraine Emergency Appeal. Their website gives details of how your generosity helps the local church in Ukraine. Our money goes a lot further in Ukraine, so you can help the local diocese buy what they need for their people.
TIME – TALENT – TREASURE
Planned Giving Drive - Weekend Two - Our Responsibility
‘And indeed, which of you here, intending to build a tower, would not first sit down and work out the cost to see if he had enough to complete it?’ - Luke 14:28
Last week our parish embarked on a Planned Giving appeal. Over the coming weeks we ask all parishioners to take this opportunity to prayerfully reflect on their commitment to our parish. Everyone should consider giving something, mindful of their blessings and circumstances.
This weekend you will hear from David Innes, Chair of the Parish Finance Committee, as he tells you more about Planned Giving and Stewardship, including why our parish needs financial help to cover our costs. Our parish is not funded by the Diocese or by the Vatican or by the Government, and relies solely on offertory donations. Please read our appeal newsletter – ‘Our Parish, Our Responsibility’ - to find out more.
Our goal is to receive an informed decision from everyone in the parish. Next weekend, we will be asking all parishioners to complete a pledge form - this will enable our parish to plan ahead with confidence for the future.
If you have any questions, there are volunteers from our Parish Finance Committee available after Mass today.
Rite of Welcome – At the 10am Mass on Sunday we will have our Rite of Welcome for all children to be baptised in the next few months or so. Please be aware that the front rows of the church will be reserved for the families involved.
Children’s Liturgy – I am delighted to announce this will restart this Sunday, 20th March at the 10am Mass!
Lenten Devotions - Stations of the Cross take place on Fridays in the morning before Mass, and in the evening. Confessions will be restored to 5:15pm before the Saturday evening Vigil Mass.
First Confessions – Our First Holy Communion Programme children will be celebrating the Sacrament of Reconciliation this week, on Tuesday at 4:30pm. We will be joined by a number of visiting priests. Please pray for the children as they make this important step in their lives – praying they discover the love and mercy of God.
Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord – There will be two Masses on Friday 25th. A Mass at 12 noon and a Mass at 6pm.
Consecration of Russia and Ukraine to the Immaculate Heart of Mary – Pope Francis will consecrate Russia and Ukraine in the Vatican on Friday 25th March, following the instructions of Our Lady to the Children of Fatima. In the apparition of 13 July 1917, in Fatima, Our Lady had asked for the consecration of Russia to Her Immaculate Heart, stating that, if this request were not granted, Russia would spread "its errors throughout the world, promoting wars and persecution of the Church.”
“The good," she added, "will be martyred; the Holy Father will have much to suffer, various nations will be destroyed."
We join ourselves with the whole Church that evening, praying for world peace and a return to God.
PPC (Parish Pastoral Council) – The minutes of the first meeting will be available on our website homepage from early next week. There will be a sub-group meeting this coming Tuesday at 7pm to take forward proposals for Life-long Formation in the parish.
Face Coverings – With the end of COVID legal requirements, it is a personal choice whether to wear a face covering in Church. Please respect the decision of those who continue to wear masks and those who do not.
Wedding – Please pray for Soudi Peat and Jamal Nejad who will be married next Saturday at 3pm here at St John’s.
With my very best wishes and prayers for you all,
Fr Aaron
