Mini Vinnies

Our two local Parish Primary schools, St Robert's and St John's, have set up their own Mini Vinnies.

St John's

St John's Mini Vinnies meet once a week starting with a prayer and continue by reading scripture passages and discuss how they link to their everyday lives.

They go on to complete an activity and display their ideas on a board on the corridor, to encourage other pupils.

This fulfills their mission statement to 'Build a better world and turn concern into action'

They lead worship when asked and are always happy to help with cake sales and other events.

St Robert Southwell

St Robert's Mini Vinnies held an assembly on the SVP's work in Sudan and kindly invited a member of our Conference to tell them about the conditions out in Sudan. They have held a cake sale  to raise money for Sudan.

Mini Vinnies in 2022

Advent Soup Lunches

It was a delight to welcome St Robert's and St John's teachers and children to the lunches. They brought great joy to the event.

An update from St Robert's

The total raised from St Robert Southwell Mini Vinnies over the last year has reached the impressive amount of £308!

Well done and many thanks to the children, the teachers and all who helped them with their generosity.

St Robert's July Assembly

Our Mini Vinnies led our morning assembly and told the rest of the school all about their upcoming fund- raising event at school to raise money for the SVP. They are going to have a 'Cool School week' next week where each class will be able to buy ice creams and ice lollies.

Maria Hutchinson was at the assembly and talked about the SVP shop in Broadfield and how the children can donate things that they no longer need.

St Robert's Toy Sale

On Thursday 5th May the Mini Vinnies group at St Robert Southwell school held a Toy Sale to raise money for the SVP.  The children came up with the idea themselves and planned and ran the sale.

The sale was very successful, everyone enjoyed themselves and it has raised over £285 for the SVP.

St. Robert's Assembly

On Tuesday 8th March the Mini Vinnies at St Robert Southwell led a whole school assembly to tell the rest of the school about what they had been up to and about the toy sale that they are holding at school on 5th May. The children were joined by Maria and Marie from Horsham SVP who showed the children the SVP website (including the Lent prayers that the Mini Vinnie children had recently written) as well as telling them about the work of the SVP and how the money raised from the upcoming toy sale will help others.

Mini Vinnies in 2021

Due to Covid 19, our Mini Vinnies were obviously severely restricted in their activities. However, we were very fortunate that they produced some beautiful Christmas cards which we took to our VIP's with their Christmas gifts.

Christmas 2020

As always, the St Robert's Mini Vinnies helped our SVP Horsham Conference by designing and colouring some beautiful Christmas cards especially for our VIP's.

These were very much appreciated by those who received them.

Mini-Vinnies collection for Fr Alban

On the 25th October 2020, the Mini Vinnies at St Robert Southwell School presented Father Alban with all of the donations of rice and pasta that they had collected for his charity ‘Give Them Something’. These donations have gone to the children in Nigeria who don’t have enough food to eat. Now that they have rice and pasta from us they are very thankful.

Our appeal was to help Father Alban with his charity as a leaving gift for him. We asked as many children at school as possible to donate a packet of rice or pasta. We also gave him a card on behalf of the school, thanking him for his support for the school for the past two years.

Emily, Eloise and Jesse went to St John’s Church on Sunday the 25th October 2020 at the 10am mass to present the donations and Father Alban was delighted. We managed to collect a huge amount of rice and pasta and all of the rice and pasta packets have been packaged and sent to Nigeria. We are very thankful for the donations.

The Mini Vinnies are a great support with our conference activities.

Over the past years they have helped with Lenten and  Advent Soup Lunches, as well as the Mass for the Anointing of the Sick

and the brunch that followed. It is a a great joy to all of us in the Parish to see such enthusiasm.
