New Paragraph

Our Patron, Saint Vincent de Paul, lived through many difficult times but always found hope in those around him who shared his vision and were inspired by his leadership. We can be reminded more than ever of his immense and enduring legacy and how he inspired others to find the strength to keep going in the face of adversity:

"We should take as a maxim never to be surprised at current difficulties, no more than at a passing breeze, because with a little patience we shall see them disappear. Time changes everything." (Saint Vincent de Paul)

OUR PARISH SVP GROUP

Who We Are

We all know people in our neighbourhood who are lonely or vulnerable and who would benefit from a little practical help.

The SVP visit the sick and lonely and are committed to meaningful and long term befriending within our local community.

By joining the SVP and giving a little bit of your time to being compassionate to those in need, you can make a real difference to people's lives. Just 2 hours a fortnight is all it takes.

What We Do

Our parish SVP volunteer members aim to fulfil the SVP mission through  offering our  services to support those who need help. We are Inspired by the Gospels and seek those in need, and offer them sincere friendship. Support includes home visits, hospital visits, visits to care homes on a regular basis and  if we have funds we  offer additional support for provisions which include food, furniture or financial help.

Along side this, we also provide support to our international SVP communities.

ST JOHN'S SVP GROUP

All are welcome...

The SVP  Mission is to seek and find those in need, to help them in a spirit of justice and to tackle the causes of poverty where we can.

Information

Founded in 1833, the Society was established by a group of students in Paris. They took on the challenged to serve the poor of the city and were  inspired by the example of St Vincent de Paul, they served the local population face to face, as part of their spiritual formation. The SVP was established in London In 1844 by a group of men. This was the first in Great Britain.
