Fr. Aaron Writes 12th March 2023
Fr Aaron writes…
This weekend we celebrate the Third Sunday of the Holy Season of Lent – The gospel describes Christ meeting the
Samaritan Woman at the well; an extra-ordinary occurrence, given Jews did not meet publicly with women or
Samaritans. However, this woman, who frequents the well daily and now engages with Christ, will soon discover that
this Jesus will be the one to satisfy her deep thirst, her spiritual thirst. Deep down, she is looking for God, but she
satisfies herself with the action of returning repeatedly to the well to satisfy her material thirst; Christ is offering her
something that will satisfy her thirst forever – the wellspring of eternal life!
At this stage in our Lenten journey we can ask ourselves: What, or rather whom, do I thirst for? How do I bring people
to the everlasting source of life?
