Fr. Aaron Writes 16th July 2023
Dear Friends,
Pastures New –
As many of you heard from me last week at Mass, Bishop Richard has appointed me as the new Parish Priest of Our Lady, Help of Christians, West Byfleet in Surrey. This means that, after eight years as your parish priest, I must leave you this summer. It was very difficult for me to announce this move, and I know many of you would have found this news to be a big shock. Much has happened over these past eight years, for me personally and for the parish, indeed throughout the whole world! We have walked together and, to the best of my ability, I have tried to be here for you as your servant and pastor. This was my first parish as parish priest and I know I have ‘cut my teeth’ here in Horsham, and so, for my many mistakes and shortcomings - I apologise.
The priest is ordained not for himself, but for others; that is, for you. Thank you for your kindness, generosity, love, support and prayers over these years - I ask for these gifts afresh in this time of change and transition. Be assured of my love and prayers for you all.
I will begin the process of moving from mid-August and a new priest is due to come to us in September.
There will be an opportunity after the summer for a proper farewell and celebration.
I will, of course, miss you all but I know we will keep the many friendships and relationships forged over these years, as I move on to where the Lord calls me to next.
World Day of Prayer for Grandparents and the Elderly – Please see elsewhere in this week’s newsletter the details of this very special occasion. I would warmly encourage all those older people who have helped us throughout our lives to attend the event at Arundel Cathedral, together with their families and friends, on Saturday 22nd July at 2:30pm.
Picnic in the Park – May I warmly encourage everyone, and especially families with young children, to join together and meet in Horsham Park for our Picnic in the Park after 11:15am Mass on Sunday 16th July. See the announcement in this newsletter for more details.
In Memoriam –
Please pray for the repose of John Folland’s soul, as we prepare to celebrate his Requiem Mass here at St John’s on Monday 24th July at 10am. Please also keep his family in your prayers at this time. We pray, too, for the repose of the soul of Stanislawa Swiestowska, as well as for her family; her Requiem Mass will take place at St John’s on Friday 28th July at 12 noon.
With every prayer and good wish for the coming week.
