Fr. Aaron Writes : 17th October 2021
Dear Friends, please find below the following Parish Priest items for your information.
Changes to Mass Times – This week on Friday Mass will be at 8:30am as I shall be attending a day on Safeguarding for all clergy of the diocese. This training is mandatory for all clergy as we continue ensure our parish communities are a safe space for all.
Holy Communion – when you approach for Holy Communion, if you are a couple or family, please come forward together to receive the Lord. This will expedite the time for Holy Communion. The gaps between the Sunday Masses are short, and so this will help increase the time between liturgies. Many thanks.
Adoration and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament – last weekend we recommenced adoration after Mass and Benediction after Confessions. Please note on Saturdays, I will be in the confessional from now on. On Fridays, I will remain in the sanctuary.
First Holy Communion – Session 3 takes place this Saturday. Group 1 from 11:30am – 12:30pm and Group 2 from 1-2pm. Please note the change in times this week. Please keep the children in your prayers as they prepare to receive the Lord in Holy Communion for the first time next month.
Parish email addresses – you may have noticed that we have a new Parish email address, horsham@abdiocese.org.uk. Please use this in all email correspondence with the Parish Office and remember to update our details in your Contacts. We will shortly be decommissioning our previous email address, info@stjohnshorsham.com, meaning that any emails you send to us at that address will not be answered.
My email will also change to aaron.spinelli@abdiocese.org.uk from this weekend.
Induction of New Headteacher at St John’s – Congratulations to Mrs Finula Farr who was inducted as new Headteacher at St John’s last Wednesday afternoon. It was a lovely celebration with Bishop Richard together with the school and parish community. The turn-out was fantastic, a real testament to the backing and support of Mrs Farr in her new role.
Restart – Again I make an appeal for those who would like to help with certain parish activities and ministries. Perhaps, you might consider using your time, talent or treasure to assist in one of the following areas of parish life, I will focus on the following to begin with:
- Children’s Liturgy.
- Refreshments after Sunday Mass.
- Adult and Children Formation Programs.
Wedding – We keep in our prayers Fiona Cottington and Michael Woodley who are to be married this Saturday at 3pm at St John’s.
Appointment of an additional Parish Health and Safety Representative
I wish to appoint an additional Parish Safety Representative to eventually to take over the role from the current parish volunteer. The role is to assist me in the discharge of my health and safety responsibilities. Please contact me if you wish to consider this role.
People who typically fulfil this role are often able to bring professional qualifications, knowledge, skills and experience which supports them in this role. Useful skills and attributes for such a role include:
o A commitment to safety, health and welfare.
o A good working knowledge of the parish, what goes on and how activities are run.
o Good communication and organisation skills.
o Basic IT skills and access to a computer or tablet.
With my very best wishes and prayers for the week ahead.
Fr Aaron
