Fr. Aaron Writes :30th January 2022
Dear Friends,
First Holy Communion Preparation – You only have 1 week left to get your completed application form into us. Our Programme for 2022 begins in early March. It will prepare your children for First Confession and for First Holy Communion. You’ll find all the information you need, including the Application Form and timetable, on our website (from our Home page, go to Sacraments, then Holy Communion). You can also pick up an Application Form from the back of the Church or from the Parish Office. Please return your completed form to the Parish Office by Sunday 6th February. I look forward to welcoming you and your children to the Programme.
It is an expectation from me that the children, with their families, practice the Catholic Faith and attendHoly Mass on Sundays, know the basic prayers such as the Sign of the Cross, Hail Mary and the Our Father before joining the Programme.
Those wishing to be baptised, received into the Church or confirmed as Catholics –
there are a number of people who have approached me towards the end of last year and the beginning of this year to enquire about becoming a Catholic Christian. I would like to invite all those who have made enquires to an informal meeting in the Parish Hall on Monday 21st February at 7pm.
Synod Meetings –
I would like to thank all those who attended and facilitated our Synod Meetings. The notes ofthe meetings are in the process of being typed up for sending to the diocese. I have read these with great interest and they will certainly form much discussion between me and the new Parish Pastoral Council, as I listen to the needs and concerns of the parish. The notes will be available to view on the parish website from Wednesday February 2nd. Individual submissions are of course welcome too and these can be given in writing to the diocese at:
Synod Responses
The Formation Team
Bishop’s House
The Upper Drive
Hove
BN3 6NB
or if you have access to a computer, via surveymonkey: www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/PTZKV3L
The deadline for submissions to the diocese is Friday 4th February.
Bishop Richard will host a webinar on the parish responses on Wednesday 9th March; details of how to join are on the diocesan website.
Seminarian Barnabas Mercer –
leaves us after the weekend. We wish him well and keep him in our prayers as he continues in the next stage of his formation to the priesthood. I would like to thank him for his generous spirit and presence in the presbytery and for his hard work in acting as scribe for the Synod meetings in particular. We both thank all parishioners who have met with him and taken him out and have welcomed him into our parish family.
Parish Pastoral Council (PPC): To all those whom I have approached to join the Parish Pastoral Council, would you be able this week to send your contact details, especially your email addresses, to the Parish Office, please, to enable us to create a group email? Please keep a note of the date of our first meeting — Wednesday February 23rd at 7pm in the Parish Hall. This will be an opportunity for us to meet each other and discuss a way forward.
In Memoriam – Please pray for Cheryl Taylor RIP. We keep her and all her family in our prayers at this sad time. Her funeral will be on Friday 18th February at 12 Noon here at St John’s.
Please also keep in your prayers twins Erin-May and Evie-Marie RIP who would have celebrated their 10th birthday at this time. We pray for those who mourn them.
May they all rest in peace and rise in glory.
Time Off -
I shall be away from the parish for my post-Christmas leave from Monday. I return on 13th February. I will not be reading or answering emails during this time. Fr Ian will look after all Sunday Masses and Fr Alban will celebrate the weekday Masses.
With my very best wishes and prayers for you all.
Fr Aaron
