Deacon Tom Writes 12th February 2023
The season of Lent begins in less than two weeks. During this time I would encourage you to take part in the Way of the Cross or as we know them as the Stations of the Cross. In doing so we spend time reflecting on the Passion of Christ in a way different to any other liturgical setting, meditating on the physical torment Christ suffered out of love for us.
There will be numerous opportunities in which to ‘walk’ the Way. Each Friday, daytime and evening, beginning on 24th February, together as a community we can renew our spiritual devotion to Jesus who takes on our sins and lightens our burden as he journeys to his Crucifixion. We can also of course walk privately in our own time throughout each and every day of Lent (and indeed, throughout the year).
The tragic events we see on our screens each day due to the earthquakes which have devastated parts of Turkey and Syria are heart-breaking. To help to bring some relief and alleviate some of the suffering we can, among other ways, donate money to support those agencies on the ground. Our 2nd collection this weekend is for CAFOD’s work in these areas. CAFOD have also launched an appeal on their website www.cafod.org.uk/give. Please be generous in supporting either way of giving. Alternatively Aid to the Church in Need has also raised an appeal which can be accessed via pennyappeal.org
Horsham Matters has raised a ‘Hidden Poverty Survey’ in order to attempt to understand what is causing poverty in Horsham and surrounding areas and the best ways to attempt to reduce it. Please consider taking part in this vital work by linking to:
