Fr. Aaron Writes 14th May 2023
Dear Friends,
Greetings on the Sixth Sunday of Easter! As we prepare for the great feasts of Ascension and Pentecost, which are coming very soon, we hear how Our Lord speaks of the coming of the Advocate, “that Spirit of Truth”. We pray each day for ourselves for a fresh expectancy, petition and reception of the Holy Spirit in our lives. The Spirit that enables us to proclaim our Faith and to call God: Abba (Father)!
This weekend, we give thanks for the gift of the Most Holy Eucharist, which some of our children received this weekend for the first time – may their, and their parents’, Faith and love of the Lord and His Body the Church grow each day. We cannot take the bonds of communion for granted; we need to work at our Faith in humility, and trust in the promises of the Lord.
In this month of May, may we continue to pray the powerful prayer of the Holy Rosary; perhaps we can endeavour to offer at least a decade a day for vocations to the priesthood or for any other intentions we have at this time. Maybe, this week, for those whose Faith has become tepid.
First Holy Communion – please keep in your prayers the children who will receive Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament for the first time on Saturday 20th May.
Feast of the Ascension – This Holy Day of Obligation takes place on Thursday. There will be two Masses in the parish, at 10am and at 7pm.
In Memoriam - please can you pray for the repose of the soul of Tony Cooper; we also hold his family in prayer at this sad time. His Requiem Mass will take place on Friday 26th May at 10am here at St John’s.
With every prayer and good wish for the coming week.
