Fr. Aaron Writes 7th May 2023
Fr Spinelli writes…
Dear Friends,
Greetings on the Fifth Sunday of Easter! As we celebrate the first Sunday in May, we remember that this month is traditionally the month of Mary. It is always wonderful how so many of us after Mass go to our Lady Chapel to say prayers and offer votive prayer candles. It is a tradition that my mother handed on to me whilst growing up – “Always go to Our Lady after Mass!” What she encouraged me to do, I pass on to you!
If, perhaps, we have fallen away from the practice of saying the Holy Rosary, then perhaps we can endeavour to offer at least a decade a day for vocations to the priesthood or for any other intentions we have at this time. If you haven’t got a rosary, then we have plenty in our Repository shop!
In our gospel this weekend, we hear Jesus describe himself as the Way, the Truth and the Life – let’s ask ourselves ‘is this really a live reality in my life and in the life of my family and friends?’
Coronation of the King – We offer our congratulations and prayers to His Majesty the King and to the Queen, on the occasion of the Coronation.
Deanery Meeting – This will take place on Tuesday at Lingfield. Holy Mass will be at 9:30am that day.
First Holy Communion – Please keep our children in prayer as they prepare for their First Holy Communions which will take place on Saturday 13th May and on Saturday 20th May, both at 11am.
Feast of the Ascension – This Holy Day of Obligation is on Thursday 18th May (a week on Thursday). There will be two Masses in the parish, at 10am and at 7pm.
In Memoriam - Please can you pray for the repose of the soul of Tony Cooper; we also hold his family in prayer at this sad time. His Requiem Mass will take place on Friday 26th May at 10am, here at St John’s.
With every prayer and good wish for the coming week.
