Fr. Aaron Writes 18th June 2023
Dear Friends,
Ordinary Time – We celebrate our first ‘green’ Sunday, as we return to Ordinary Time. We continue to celebrate
the Eucharist with much devotion and love. We live our ordinary time in an extraordinary way; we are reminded of
the calling of the Lord to the apostles. The Lord continues to call some to service in His vineyard as priests, but he
calls all of us to live out our baptismal calling to holiness and to proclaim action of God in our post- Christian
society. We can do this by sharing our story, of how God has worked in our lives. The Lord tells Moses to remind
the people of the wonders the Lord has worked for them. Let us this week focus on what the Lord has done for us.
Biblical Formation – Members of the Parish Formation Team will meet on Monday evening, together with David
Beresford of the Catholic Bible School, to explore hosting a Bible formation weekend here at St John’s. It is so
important to be steeped in the knowledge of the scriptures. With this potential weekend taking place after the
summer, we hope to begin a series of formation moments for our parish community.
Solemnity of Ss Peter and Paul – There will be two Masses on Thursday June 29th, at 10am and at 7pm. Itis a Holy
Day of Obligation.
Saturday Evening Vigil Mass – Because of my many roles both in the Diocese and in various organisations
elsewhere, I often find at times of the year that I have to be away from the Parish on Saturdays. I am grateful to
the many supply priests who kindly assist me and I am grateful for your understanding. Over the next few weeks,
I shall be absent on a few Saturdays. Coming up,there will be 150th Anniversary Celebrations at Arundel Cathedral,
Ordinations in Shrewsbury and then, later in August, World Youth Day! This Saturday, I am in Norwich for a
Knights of the Holy Sepulchre meeting and investiture.
With every prayer and good wish for the coming week.
