Fr. Aaron Writes 2nd April 2023
Fr Aaron writes…
This weekend we arrive atthe beginning of ourHolyWeek celebrations – we begin with Christ’s triumphal entrance into Jerusalem, the Holy City, to show that the “Hour” has come to show the depth of His love for us.
I encourage you to join in all the services of the Sacred Triduum, especially if you have not done so before, as by participating in these ceremonies we enter into the heart of God and understand how far He will go for his beloved creation.
Please keep in your prayers Jemma Claydon and Richard Hurst who will be received into full communion with the Church at the Easter Vigil.
Maundy Thursday Confessions – will be heard after the evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper, during the Watch, concluding at Night Prayer.
Holy Week Reconciliation in the Deanery –
East Grinstead Monday 3rd April 7:30 pm
West Grinstead Tuesday 4th April 7:00 pm
Holy Week – Please take home a leaflet (or a copy of this Newsletter) from the back of the church, containing details of all of our Holy Week services and encourage friends and family to join in the celebrations, especially if they have not yet returned to church post-pandemic.
Palm Sunday – Weather permitting, we will begin our liturgies outside the church for the Gospelr eading and the blessing of palms.
Chrism Mass – All are welcome to join the Bishop and the Diocese gathered at our mother church for the blessing of oils and for the renewal of priestly commitment on Wednesday 5th April at 6pm in Arundel Cathedral.
Easter Collection – Thank you in advance for your continued generosity in the collections which are given to the parish priest. This happens at Christmas and Easter and makes up the bulk of my income. It is very much appreciated, especially in these difficult financial times.
World Youth Day 2023 Lisbon – The deadline for applications has now passed. There will be a meeting with all of those who’ve signed up, to discuss fundraising and preparation for the event – I am looking at a date in May for this.
Special Prayers – We pray for the repose of the soul of Morgan Rose Betchley and for all her family and friends at this sad time; her Memorial Service takes place this Tuesday at 12 noon here at St John’s.
With every prayer and good wish.
Fr Aaron
