Fr. Aaron Writes 8th January 2023
Pope Benedict XVI – After the Newsletter was published last week, we heard the news of the death of Pope Benedict
XVI. We, as a parish, will hold a Requiem Mass for the repose of his soul on Tuesday 10th January at 6pm. I was able to
get to Rome for the funeral Mass in St Peter’s Square, which was a huge privilege. As I had been in the Square at his
election, I wanted to pay my respects to him; in thanksgiving for a life of dedicated service to God and the Church, and
for his influence on my vocation to the priesthood. I prayed for you all at the tomb of the Apostle Peter.
RCIA – Initiation in the Catholic Faith – I would like to hold a meeting with those who wish to form a new team to help
guide those who find themselves wanting to be in full communion in the Catholic Church. If you have already indicated
to me that you would like to help, or have come to a decision that you can help, you are welcome to an informal meeting
which will take place between the end of the 9:15am Mass and the beginning of the 11:15am Mass on Sunday 15th January in Room 1 of the Parish Hall. I really need parishioners who can help in different ways. Coaching and help will be given.
First Holy Communion – At all Masses this weekend of 7th/8th January, the children preparing for First Confession and
First Communion will be enrolled formally into the programme. At whichever Mass the children attend – 6pm Vigil,
9:15am or 11:15am – there will be the Rite of Enrolment.
World Youth Day 2023 Lisbon – As we move into the new year, this wonderful event fast approaches! If you would like
to come and have not indicated this to me yet - do tell me! We will continue our fundraising for the participants.
With every prayer and good wish,
Fr Aaron
