Fr. Aaron Writes 19th June 2022
Dear Friends,
Corpus Christi – Today, we reflect on the Mystery of Faith, the gift of Christ himself to us in the Most Holy Eucharist. The real presence of Christ in the Blessed Sacrament is a treasure for us to celebrate and share. We encounter the Risen Lord each time, in a very close and real way, in the Gift of Himself. He comes to us under the species of bread and wine, we taste and see that the Lord is good! In every Mass, we enjoy the Marriage Feast of the Lamb, made present on earth on our altars, in a most awesome mystery. As we behold the Lamb of God, we continue to press forward with hope and joy and with conviction and zeal, as we share the invitation of the Lord to “Do This in Memory of Me”.
Corpus Christi at Horsham – Weather permitting - as I write this, it is sunny but the forecast is for rain on Sunday morning - there will be a Eucharistic procession after the 10am Mass and after the 11:30am Mass on Sunday, ending with Benediction in the Church. If you have any petals that can be used by the children to place before the Blessed Sacrament, then please bring those to Mass and place them in the baskets provided.
First Holy Communion Masses – These will take place next Saturday, 25th June, at 11am and at 1:30pm. Please keep the children in your prayers as they prepare to receive their Saviour and Lord in Holy Communion for the first time.
The Sacrament of Confirmation – This weekend, the young people will celebrate Confession and Reconciliation in anticipation of them receiving Confirmation. Please pray for them, and we look forward to Bishop Richard coming to St John’s on Sunday 3rd July at 3pm to confirm them.
Sunday Morning Mass Schedule – On Sunday 3rd July we will revert back to a 9:15am and an 11:15am Mass, thus ending the pandemic timetable of three Masses on a Sunday morning. I thank you for your understanding.
Full PPC (Parish Pastoral Council) Meeting – At the meeting last Monday (13th June), we took photographs of the PPC members, so that we can create a special notice board for PPC matters at the back of church and allow people to know who is on the team. However, some members were unable to attend the meeting - could they please send in their photos to the Parish Office as soon as possible. Minutes of the all meetings involving the PPC are available on the website.
New Catholics – On Tuesday 21st and 28th June, there will be a mini-course held, organised for all those who have expressed a desire to become a Catholic and for those who wish to be baptised and confirmed. We will look at the three questions: Why God? Why Christ? Why the Church? We will meet in Rooms 2/3 of the Parish Hall at 7pm. Wine and nibbles will be available. To anyone who would like to join the group as a refresher, you’d be most welcome.
The Parish Fayre - In response to the Stewardship drive during Lent, when we called for more volunteers in parish ministries, there will be a Parish Fayre of Volunteers on the weekend of 16/17th July. There will be manned stalls with information on how to join the various ministries and volunteer roles in our parish.
With every prayer and good wish,
Fr Aaron
