Fr. Aaron Writes 11th September 2022
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II
I am sure, like me, we were, and continue to be, saddened by the death of the Queen last Thursday. Her death means an end to an era, someone who has been a golden thread of stability and service, through all our living memories. There will be many tributes as we enter a period of national mourning. The Catholic community of Horsham wish to convey our condolences and prayers to the Royal Family and especially pray for King Charles III and his subjects at this difficult time.
Thank you for your example of faith and dutiful service and may eternal light shine upon your Majesty.
May Queen Elizabeth rest in peace and rise in glory.
The 9:15am Mass this weekend will be a Mass of Requiem for Her Majesty the Queen.
Floods in Pakistan - There are many ways in which we can show our concern and support to our brothers and sisters in need. There is a special notice regarding the awful floods in Pakistan in the newsletter, signposting readers to CAFOD’s website. Aid to the Church in Need is also a wonderful charity that assists our brothers and sisters who are in need in that country and in many other places.
World Youth Day Lisbon 2023 – Details are coming through of the costs and itinerary for World Youth Day. The event will take place between 31st July - 7th August 2023. I would like to take a group from Horsham and start fundraising. If you would like to come, please email me indicating your interest and also register your interest through the Diocesan website.
National Mass for Altar Servers – I am encouraging our Altar Servers to attend the National Mass for Altar Servers at Westminster Cathedral on Saturday October 1st at 2:30pm. If Servers can make their own way there with their parents or carers, I shall meet them there for the Mass.
Parish Shared Supper and Lunch – Please make a note in your diaries that there will be a Shared Supper and a Shared Lunch in the Hall on the weekend of the 1st and 2nd October, after the Vigil Mass and the 11:15am Mass respectively.
Visit of the Relics of St Bernadette - There is general information about the tour and about St. Bernadette herself via The Relic Tour website, which is now live at www.stbernadette.org.uk/the-tour.
In this Diocese, the relics will be in Woking from the 21st to 22nd October, at the Cathedral from 22nd to 23rd October and at Worth Abbey from the 23rd to 24th October. These days will be marked by liturgical celebrations and opportunities for private prayer, modelled on the celebrations that take place in Lourdes.
With every prayer and good wish,
Fr Aaron
